Our Approach to Translation and Artificial Intelligence
Consumerlite News uses automated translation technology to make its original English-language journalism available to readers in Spanish, Japanese, Arabic, and Simplified Chinese.
The English edition is the primary source edition. Translated articles and public information pages are derived from that source and are published to the corresponding Consumerlite News language editions.
Automatic Publication
Eligible translations may be published automatically without human review before publication. This allows Consumerlite News to provide timely access to reporting across multiple languages. Automated translation can occasionally produce errors, awkward phrasing, or differences in meaning, particularly when processing technical terminology, quotations, names, idioms, or culturally specific language.
Standards for Translated Content
Our translation system is intended to preserve the central meaning, facts, sourcing, quotations, dates, figures, links, disclosures, and editorial context of the original English publication.
Translated content must not intentionally add unsupported claims, remove material context, change the position of a quoted source, or present automated interpretation as independently reported information.
Each translated article includes a disclosure explaining that it was translated from the English edition and provides a link to the original source article whenever available.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence and automated systems may assist with translation, language processing, formatting, content classification, distribution, and other publishing operations. These tools support the work of Consumerlite News but do not replace the organization’s responsibility for the material it publishes.
Consumerlite News does not consider an automated translation to be separate original reporting. The reporting, sourcing, and editorial foundation remain with the original English publication and its identified author.
Corrections and Updates
If an English source article is corrected or materially updated, its translated editions may be updated automatically to reflect the revised source. Previously published translations may also be corrected when a translation error or formatting problem is identified.
Readers who discover a possible factual or translation error may notify Consumerlite News through our Contact Us, Corrections Policy, or Submit a Correction pages. Reports should identify the article, language edition, and passage in question whenever possible.
Transparency and Accountability
Consumerlite News remains accountable for content published under its name, including automatically translated material. We aim to be transparent about the use of translation technology, provide access to the original reporting, and correct significant errors when they are identified.
